Win Over Depression

Win Over Depression.
You deserve more than the slump you are in.

I know the feeling, it feels like the whole world turned its back on you. Thoughts of hopelessness, despair and even death comes to mind, you feel like your energy was just sucked right out of you and you just want to sleep all day. The tough part is, you just can't  "get over it", like what some people think. It's a disease, your hippocampus (the part of your brain that regulates mood) shrinks, your hormones like serotonin and dopamine are down. however, there are natural ways to reduce the symptoms of depression. This is not a cure for depression but this will definitely help you be on your way recovery.

1. Exercise - when you're depressed your serotonin and dopamine are down. A great way stimulate the release of these hormones is exercise. Just walk for 15-30 minutes and you'll immediately feel relief. It's like magic...hoo! You'll feel like 20lbs of has been lifted off your shoulders.

2. Sunlight-  sunlight releases serotonin and inhibits melatonin(sleepy hormone),  so open your window at 7AM and feel the glory of the sun lifting you from depression. I suggest you do 1 and 2, at the same time to double the effect.

3.Quality Sleep-  A good night sleep reduce stress levels,  besides a rested mind is much better with dealing emotions and problem solving. Sleeping during the day does not count, in fact it even makes you feel more depressed. I understand it's tempting to sleep during the day when you didn't get a good night but be patient and get a good night sleep.

4. Eat healthy-  I won't tell you what to eat because I don't know your background and I'm not a nutritionist. However, along with exercise and sunlight, eating healthy with good fats and protein lifts your happy hormones.

5. Avoid junk food- STOP eating that, it's not only bad for your waistline,  it's also bad for your brain. Sugar and bad carbohydrates creates a hormonal imbalance, that makes your mood swing, initially, you'll feel good eating potato chips and drinking soda but after your happy binging you'll feel like crap, so avoid, avoid.

6. Love- Surround yourself with people who love you, it could be family, friends or a support group.Sometimes all we really need is someone who can listen  Go ahead and vent out if you have to but keep your chin up after! Remember this is an internal battle that you can overcome!

7. Clean your room- If you've been depressed for some time now, you probably live in a cluttered room,Clean it. Thank me later.

and lastly....

Seek help. If you have been suffering from depression for a long time, talk to a professional. You deserve a better life than this slump you are in. Especially when you've been talking by yourself ayayay... that means you are really down. There is no shame, we can all be victims of depression.

I hope I was able to help you.

Good luck!
