8 ways to beat depression naturally

Depression is an illness robs one the meaning of life but the great news is there are many things you can do to fight back. Changing your lifestyle, exercise and even the way you think-- are ways to beat depression.

1. Exercise- it boosts production of endorphins that makes you feel better. You don't need to go to a gym, a 15 minute will instantly make you feel better, if you feel like increasing the duration of your walk go for it. Exercising regularly a few times a week will give you long-term positive effects. In fact  walking actually rewires your brain in positive ways.

2. Have a routine. According to Ian Cook, Md a psychiatrist and director of the Depression Research and Clinic Program at UCLA.  Depression can ruin the structure of your life, stripping you of your ability to do things. Having a routine can help you get back on track

3. Eat healthy. Do you know that what you eat directly affect how you feel. Eating crap will make you feel crap, eating healthy will make you feel great. If depression makes you overeat, getting in control of your eating will help you feel better. According to Dr.Cook eating food high in omega-3 fatty acids like (salmon and tuna) and folic acid (such as avocado) could help ease depression.

4. Sleep. Depression can make it hard to sleep, too little sleep can make depression worse. 
Start by making changes to your lifestyle. Go to bed early and get up the same time everyday. Try not to take naps. Sleep only at a set time, let's say 10:00PM and make it a habit. You will notice an improvement in your sleep, you'll also feel refreshed  when you wake up and have more energy.

5. Trample negativity. In depression, the battle usually is in how you change how you think. When you're depressed all your thoughts are negative. So next time use logic. You might feel like the whole world but against you but do you have proof? There are a lot of people out there who wants to be with you and love you and care about you.

6. Take Responsibility. When you're depressed, you lay down and pull back from life. Don't. Take back control, having a responsibility can help you maintain you life structure and fight depression.
It could be as simple as cleaning your house or having a part time job.

7. Try something new. Push yourself to do something different. Go to a play, read a book, learn a new craft, volunteer at your local orphanage. 

"When we challenge ourselves to do something different, there are chemical changes in the brain," Cook says. "Trying something new alters the levels of [the brain chemical] dopamine, which is associated with pleasure, enjoyment, and learning."

8. Have fun. When you're depressed, do things that you enjoy. If things aren't the same anymore, remember that it's just another symptom of depression, keep trying. Go watch a funny movie and laugh your heart out.
